写日记的时间一般是在下午或晚上，有时也有在第二天补记。所记叙的事情通常发生在过去，所以常用一般过去时。但如果要记叙天气、描写景色、展望未来、议论某事或对话引语等，可以使用一般现在时或一般将来时，以生动再现当时的情景。

4.养成积累词语的习惯

日记是对生活中方方面面的事情的描述和感想的表达，所以写日记要用到单词面很广，这就要求英语学习者在平时要养成积累单词的好习惯，而把记忆的单词运用到日记中更是起到温故作用。值得注意的是，在写日记时，我们都会遇到很多不会写的单词。这时千万不要就此止步，而要先空出来，或者用拼音代替，等一篇日记写完了再查词典不上所缺的单词，并且重点记忆这些单词。这是通过这样的`方式，我们才能更快地积累单词和提高英语水平。

5.英语日记中的缩写与省略

英语写作中经常会有缩略语，比如：nov. / november. apr. / april

eg / for example 等各种形式的缩略语。

建议初学者不要用这些缩略语，因为初学者对单词的熟悉程度还不是很高，要不断的应用学过的单词才能记得牢，记得准。

最后需要一提的是，英语日记习惯一年一本，因此日期不必写年份，而只是在每年一本的日记本封面上或者在日记的第一页和最后一页加以注明即可。
